Environmental and Sustainability Policy.

Public Art Works is committed to minimising environmental impact and embedding sustainable thinking throughout our design, fabrication, and delivery processes. We recognise our responsibility to contribute positively to the environment and to create work that is resilient, responsible, and respectful of the natural world.

1. Our Commitment

Public Art Works will:

  • Reduce carbon emissions and resource consumption where possible

  • Use sustainable, reused, recycled, and responsibly sourced materials

  • Design for longevity, durability, and low maintenance

  • Protect and enhance natural environments and biodiversity

  • Comply with relevant environmental legislation and best practice

2. Sustainable Design

We embed sustainability from the earliest stages of design by:

  • Considering whole-life impact, including materials, fabrication, transport, installation, maintenance, and end-of-life

  • Prioritising low-impact materials and finishes

  • Designing adaptable and durable works with long lifespans

  • Minimising waste through efficient design and fabrication methods

3. Fabrication and Materials

We aim to:

  • Work with makers and fabricators who demonstrate responsible environmental practices

  • Specify materials with recycled content or low embodied carbon where appropriate

  • Reuse existing structures or components where possible

  • Avoid hazardous materials and finishes wherever practicable

4. Installation and Site Practice

We will:

  • Minimise site disturbance and protect existing habitats

  • Work with environmental specialists and respond to ecological surveys where required

  • Use efficient transport, packaging, and logistics

  • Follow best practice for waste management and recycling on site

5. Natural Environments and Biodiversity

When working in landscapes, parks, and wildlife-rich areas, we will:

  • Design sensitively in response to ecological context

  • Avoid harm to protected species and habitats

  • Seek opportunities to enhance biodiversity through design and planting where appropriate

6. Monitoring and Review

We will regularly review our environmental practices and seek to improve performance over time. Sustainability is a shared responsibility across our team, collaborators, and supply chain.
