Consultation and Engagement.

We work closely with communities, stakeholders, and partners to inform and shape every project. Through community workshops and professional consultation, we gather insights that guide the design and ensure it resonates with people and place. Combined with strategic development, this collaborative approach helps us create thoughtful, practical, and meaningful public art from concept to completion.

  • We approach community engagement through interactive workshops that include activities such as printing, filmmaking, interviews, and collaborative design tasks. These sessions not only inform the development of our work by gathering insights, stories, and ideas from participants, but also help to strengthen connections, fostering a sense of shared ownership and bonding communities through collaborative creativity.

  • We undertake public consultation by sharing designs through exhibitions, presentations, and online interpretive videos, giving people multiple ways to engage with proposed projects. This feedback not only helps shape the work but also supports the planning process, ensuring projects reflect community perspectives while fostering transparency, understanding, and public support.

  • We engage in professional consultation with architects, councils, and cultural organisations to help shape designs, develop strategic approaches, and support funding applications. Our expertise has informed public realm masterplans and guided long-term cultural strategies, ensuring projects are well-integrated and impactful. We also produce detailed feasibility studies and technical advice, providing the evidence and insight needed to realise projects successfully.

Engaging with place and community.

The Healthy Hedgerow was a collaborative project celebrating art and nature as part of Wakefield’s ‘Our Year’ programme. It brought together tree planting around Sandal Castle with the Woodland Trust, partnerships with Wakefield Museums and Castles, and a bespoke arts programme encouraging local primary school pupils to care for and connect with the natural world.

“Aprille demonstrated a clear understanding of the artist brief, and her creativity and passion really brought the project to life with a stunning flower crown installation at Sandal Castle”

Some other projects developed through public engagement.

  • Hedgerow, York.

Hedgerow comprises two 6-metre-high permanent public artworks installed in York, inspired by the ancient hedgerow that runs across the site. The works form a bold, graphic interpretation of regional flora, translating natural forms into striking vertical markers within the landscape. The designs were informed through workshops with local schools and ecology experts, embedding community knowledge and ecological understanding into the final artworks.

  • Tides & Times, Southwark Cathedral.

An interactive pod at Southwark Cathedral, commissioned by the RIBA and BBC and co-designed with Year 6 pupils from Peter Hill’s School in South London. Through five workshops, the children were guided through the full design process, met local planners, toured the cathedral, and produced digital animations, shaping a playful and informed response to this historic setting.
