Public Art Works is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for employees, collaborators, contractors, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. We recognise our legal and moral responsibility to manage health and safety effectively and to prevent accidents, injury, and ill health.
1. Our Commitment
Public Art Works will:
Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and guidance
Identify hazards and assess risks associated with our activities
Eliminate or reduce risks so far as is reasonably practicable
Provide appropriate information, instruction, and supervision
Promote a positive health and safety culture
2. Responsibilities
Public Art Works is responsible for implementing this policy and ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place. All collaborators, freelancers, and contractors working with us are expected to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others, and to follow agreed procedures.
3. Risk Assessment and Planning
We will:
Prepare and implement suitable and sufficient Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
Review risk assessments regularly and update them as required
Plan work carefully, particularly for high-risk or complex installations
Coordinate with site managers, principal contractors, and other stakeholders
4. Training and Competence
We will ensure that those undertaking work are competent and, where necessary, appropriately trained and qualified. This includes the use of plant, equipment, access systems, and specialist tools.
5. Safe Working Practices
We will:
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) where required
Ensure equipment is suitable, maintained, and used correctly
Follow safe systems of work
Manage manual handling, work at height, electrical safety, and lifting operations appropriately
6. Accidents and Incidents
All accidents, incidents, and near misses must be reported as soon as possible. We will investigate incidents to identify causes and take steps to prevent recurrence.
7. Public Safety
We give particular consideration to protecting members of the public during fabrication, transport, installation, and the life of the artwork. Designs and installations will be assessed for public safety, durability, and appropriate maintenance.
8. Monitoring and Review
This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to ensure it remains effective and compliant.
