Words in Public Spaces.

Expression of Interest

We are pleased to submit our proposal for the Words in Public Spaces commission in collaboration with Lost Chimes.

The Ballad of Peterborough: a co-created anthem and video based on local stories, myths and poems gathered through public workshops, culminating in a live performance with a community choir and disseminated through the city’s digital billboard network.

The video below talks more about our idea and approach.

Below are 5 previous works. Thank you.

Sandal Castle, Wakefield.

The Healthy Hedgerow was a collaborative project celebrating art and nature as part of Wakefield’s ‘Our Year’ programme. It brought together tree planting around Sandal Castle with the Woodland Trust, partnerships with Wakefield Museums and Castles, and a bespoke arts programme encouraging local primary school pupils to care for and connect with the natural world.

“Aprille demonstrated a clear understanding of the artist brief, and her creativity and passion really brought the project to life with a stunning flower crown installation at Sandal Castle”

Carbon Copy.

Carbon Copy was an audio-visual remix of Sheffield’s former Head Post Hall. Created in collaboration with Lost Chimes, it was a site-specific performance responding to the building’s architecture. The music and lyrics drew on its history and past occupants, while the performance was accompanied by live drawing that visually interpreted and reacted to the space in real time.

Wonderwood, Leeds.

Wonderwood at The Round Foundry was created as a new village green on a borrowed piece of land, transforming the site into a shared community space for local residents and workers. The public garden features a number of bespoke sculptures, including a tree and a bell tower, and also incorporates wind-up MP3 players.

We worked with local people to collect stories about the area, which were shaped into a series of audio narratives that visitors could listen to while exploring the space, adding a further layer of meaning, memory, and connection to the site.

Some Different.

The Fantabulous Noise Machine.

The Fantabulous Noise Machine is an interactive sculpture created for the Roald Dahl Museum’s 20th anniversary. We worked with museum staff and actors to create audio combining elements from Roald Dahl’s stories, visitor reflections, and local wildlife sounds, played through a built-in wind-up MP3 player.
